This lidded dish is an art pottery piece hand thrown in porcelain, one of the more difficult clays to throw, especially large pots. It is signed LB for Bruno Latorre. Many ceramic artists from Quebec and Canada work with crystalline glazes. Crystalline glaze pottery is the art of growing crystals on pottery during the firing process. The crystals grow in an organic way, so no two pieces are alike. Crystalline glazing is time consuming and expensive to produce. There can be many failures, but when all goes well the effects are stunning. Crystalline glazes are seductive and instantly capture the eye, suggesting floating galaxies, frosty windows, gemstones or flowers.
